For the rest of us who play multiplayer games, what we would give to have the good old days of dialup back. Now it’s completely impossible to play on Aussie or East Asian servers – you’d get a minimum ping of 300ms. Some years back it was about a hundred, and 300+ms for servers in the States.

And with TMNet’s flashy upgraded Deep Packet Inspection, expect your packets (and the server connection) to disappear into oblivion, unless you’re using a popular app like WOW or Skype. (Gotta keep the masses happy!)

I’ve tried everything – continuously following up on my complaints (which have been open for two years now), reporting to the CFM, consumer groups, and guess what I got? Nothing. I’ve been very patient, and I don’t think I deserve to be told off time and over again by an incompetent L1 call centre employee that “there isn’t anything wrong with the connection”.

Complain to telekom also no use, my aunt is telekom staff, direct complain to maintenance department, you guy know what those fxxking maintenance tell my aunt? they say what now puasa already, no energy to work only can check after raya,wowo if like this puasa no need to receive salary lo since no need to work ma.

How do you explain then when there are at least a hundred seeders and only a handful of other peers / downloaders for a particular file and I’m still downloading at speeds of 0.3~1.0 kbps?

If Screamyx means to give the advertised speeds only for local sites or P2P, they should have mentioned it when subscribers apply for it so that there’s no complaints. But the fact is that it is commonly understood is that the advertised speeds are meant for GLOBAL use and not only for local connections. The purpose of the Internet is to help people reach globally not limit them to the boundaries of the local network. Furthermore, as a developing country, there is still a lot more that we can learn from foreign countries.

Imagine paying for extra services that you’re not getting? Of course there’s frustration. Imagine paying RM100 at a mamak stall for just a glass of packet teh ais…I’m sure many people would be furious. And in rebuttal to “its me”, paying a ferrari that can go 300 km/h means that we expect it to 300 km/h as and when we please even its not all the way. But the fact now is that the 300 km/h can’t even go 10% of its speed at any time possible, not even for the local streets, how’s that satisfactory? Of course users are smart to know which ‘lanes’ or ‘routes’ that can be taken to achieve those speeds. If we expect those speeds, of course we’re not saying ‘trunk roads’…

If the claims that Screamyx actually employ ‘underground’ tactics to reduce the users online, my guess is that the best way would be to ‘help’ Screamyx reduce users online permanently by switching to another ISP.
